Job Description
Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Finance to lead our financial operations and planning efforts. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of non-profit financial management , LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit) compliance and reporting, and a strong foundation in accounting or finance . This individual will be responsible for overseeing all financial functions including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, grant compliance, and audit coordination to ensure fiscal integrity and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the organization’s financial operations including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including those specific to non-profit organizations and affordable housing programs .
Manage and monitor LIHTC financial reporting and compliance , working closely with asset managers, lenders, investors, and government agencies.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal leadership and the Board of Directors.
Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors.
Collaborate with program and development staff to prepare grant budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
Develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Supervise and mentor finance and accounting staff.
Partner with leadership to support strategic planning, financial modeling, and decision-making.
Lead efforts in financial sustainability, long-term planning, and risk management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required) ; CPA or MBA preferred .
Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in financial management , with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Prior experience in a non-profit organization is required , ideally with exposure to government grants and restricted funds.
Strong knowledge of LIHTC financing, compliance, and reporting is required.
Demonstrated ability to lead budgeting and financial planning processes.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, MIP Fund Accounting, Yardi, etc.) and Excel.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
