Status: Non-exempt

Primary Focus:

Employee will follow policies and procedures set forth by Odessa Memorial Healthcare Center. Non-medically trained drivers are to assist with patient movement, CPR, and equipment deployment. They are responsible for EMS vehicle operations, and radio communications to dispatch and hospitals.

Job duties and expectations:
  • Operate emergency vehicles safely and within the law as defined by Washington State RCW and WAC.
  • Participate regularly in OTEP or CME EMS education programs to maintain skills.
  • Behave in a professional manner when working with other EMS, hospital, law enforcement, fire service, and healthcare personnel.
  • Act with professionalism, compassion, and decorum when dealing with patients, family, and the public.
  • When using the "Crew App" for work related communications, it will be used in the same manner in which it is expected for you to treat your fellow crew members; with professionalism, courtesy, compassion and respect.
  • Must be able to lift fifty pounds or more with assistance on an infrequent basis.
  • Responds to EMS calls typically within ten minutes when "on-call".
  • Places fuel receipts in designated envelope in ambulance after refueling.
  • Able to communicate well in both written and verbal formats.
  • Cleans and restocks ambulance and related equipment after each run.
  • Operates radio equipment within FCC regulations for conduct and language. Follows agency format for communications to hospitals and dispatch.
  • Finds coverage for their shift if they are unwilling or unable to cover a particular shift. Personal emergent medical situations are an exception; however, the EMS Supervisor must still be notified.
  • Acts as an ambassador for the organization when on the clock and dresses in a professional, well groomed, manner.
  • Maintains HIPAA confidentiality.
  • Follows protocol and organizational safety and PPE requirements.
Essential Functions:
  • Complete a mechanical checklist prior to each shift to ensure ambulance is in working order and ready to transport patients to and from required locations, and report any mechanical issues to appropriate service personnel
  • Ensure ambulance is clean and stocked properly with first aid and medical supplies prior to each shift and between patient transports throughout the day
  • Accept patient transport assignments daily and drive ambulance with any necessary medical personnel to patient location
  • Help patients onto ambulance gurney and load them into the ambulance, assisted by partner or other medical personnel
  • Transport patient to assigned medical facility, unload patient and take patient inside facility and to where directed by medical personnel
  • Accompany EMTs and paramedics on emergency calls to transport patients to hospitals when assigned to do so
  • Report accident or other emergency facts to medical personnel and/or law enforcement when necessary
  • Complete appropriate trip sheets as required by employer to record officially each transport

Required Education and Certification:

OMHC Required Responsibilities:

1. Is responsible for becoming knowledgeable and compliant with Department, Hospital, Fire/ Safety/ Disaster, Educational requirements, and Personnel Policies.

2. Follows the Corporate Compliance Program and maintains HIPAA confidentiality standard.

3. Demonstrates support and adherence to the Mission Statement of OMHC.

4. Participates and supports the Quality Improvement program and provides optimum customer service.

5. Mandatory Annual Training per policy completed annually.

6. Complete annual competency and skills

7. Attends mandatory meetings and in-services and other meetings as requested.

8. Checks, reads and responds to district e-mail's as time affords when here, at least weekly when not; vacations, and any time off excluded. Is responsible for knowing and understanding the content in the e-mail and follow-up if necessary.
  • Current BLS/First Aid for healthcare provider CPR certification from AHA or Red Cross
  • Participation in OTEP or CME method of training to meet certification/recertification requirements set forth by Washington State Department of Health
  • Completes organizational mandated training on time.
  • Previous experience with gurneys, hydraulic and wheelchair lifts
