POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Manager will oversee all aspects of a multi-station audio group, including radio, digital, low-powered television stations (where applicable), and other audio platforms, ensuring its financial success, operational efficiency, and brand positioning. This role requires a forward strategic thinker with a deep understanding of all aspects of the audio industry, strong leadership skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional content.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    1. Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan aligned with the company's overall goals.
    2. Ensure that all direct reports have the necessary skills to perform at the highest level of professionalism and competence by supporting and coaching them on an ongoing basis.
    3. Lead an effective organizational structure for the overall market.
    4. Establish professional relationships and manage the company's vision with clients, other media organizations, board members, political community leaders, and anyone who engages with the market and its stations.
    5. Identify opportunities for growth and innovation, including digital initiatives and emerging technologies.
    6. Monitor industry trends and the competitive landscapes to maintain a competitive edge.
    7. Recruit, hire, and develop a talented team.
    8. Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management.
    9. Foster a culture of collaboration and innovation.
    10. Oversee the development and management of annual budgets for each station in the market, ensure that an accurate monthly forecast is prepared and reviewed with Corporate Finance, and manage, monitor, and meet.
    11. Monitor revenue and expenses to ensure profitability and maximize return on investment, consistent with corporate goals.
    12. Negotiate contracts with vendors, advertisers, and talent to optimize costs and revenue.
  2. Programming and Content:
    1. Collaborate with programming directors to develop engaging and relevant content that attracts and retains listeners.
    2. Ensure adherence to FCC regulations and industry standards and follow the FCC, Corporate, and Human Resources guidelines to protect against legal actions.
    3. Monitor ratings and audience feedback to make data-driven programming decisions.
  3. Sales and Marketing:
    1. Lead the sales team to achieve revenue goals.
    2. Develop and implement effective marketing and promotional strategies to promote the stations and attract advertisers.
    3. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and community partners.
  4. Operations:
    1. Oversee daily operations, including engineering, production, and traffic.
    2. Ensure efficient workflow and resource allocation.
    3. Maintain a positive and productive work environment.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the radio/audio industry, with at least 6 years in a management role, preferably as a General Manager.
  2. Proven track record of success in driving revenue and audience growth.
  3. Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Ability to lead and motivate teams.
  6. Strong understanding of FCC, SEC, and EEO regulations and industry best practices.
  7. Must be a creative thinker and possess a high level of Emotional IQ.
  8. Ability to multi-task, be flexible, and work long hours, including some weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  9. Submit to a criminal background check.
  10. Other duties as assigned.
  11. Legal right to work in the United States.
