POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Engagement & Volunteer Coordinator is a dynamic leadership role responsible for developing, managing, and evaluating both the hospital’s volunteer program and its community engagement initiatives. This position serves as a liaison between the hospital and the broader community, cultivating strategic partnerships and leading outreach programs that promote public trust, wellness, and health equity. In parallel, this role oversees the recruitment, training, and coordination of volunteers who enhance patient care and support hospital operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Volunteer Program Management

  • Recruit, screen, onboard, and assign volunteers in alignment with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Design and lead volunteer orientation and training programs that reflect the hospital’s culture, policies, and safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments to assess volunteer needs and develop job descriptions for volunteer roles.
  • Maintain volunteer databases, service hour logs, compliance records, and performance documentation.
  • Address volunteer performance concerns and provide coaching or recognition as appropriate.
  • Organize annual recognition events and implement volunteer appreciation strategies.

Community Engagement

  • Develop and execute outreach strategies that align with the hospital’s strategic plan and community benefit goals.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with schools, nonprofit organizations, faith-based groups, and civic leaders.
  • Plan and manage hospital-sponsored events (e.g., health fairs, educational forums, outreach campaigns).
  • Represent the hospital at external meetings and public events; serve as a visible and credible liaison.
  • Collaborate with internal departments and the Marketing team to create culturally relevant outreach materials and communications.
  • Track engagement metrics and prepare impact reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in grant writing and reporting tied to volunteerism and community outreach efforts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Public Health, Human Resources, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community outreach, or program management, including at least 2 years in a healthcare or hospital setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and written communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills and experience coordinating multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; knowledge of volunteer management systems (e.g., Volgistics, Better Impact) and basic graphic design tools a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings or weekends, to support events or community activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, and best practices for volunteer services in a clinical setting.
  • CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.
