General Cleaning Technician #303 Target Hiring Range: $49,000-$59,000 Department: Capitol Operations Posting Date Range: 1/31/2025-2/14/2025 Pay Grade Range: $49232-$82826 Work Hours: 11:00 pm-7:30 am FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Remote Work Status: Onsite This vacancy announcement closes at 7pm EST. JOB OVERVIEW This position performs environmental services support, including a variety of cleaning tasks such as stripping and waxing floors, cleaning carpets, setting up fireplaces, moving furniture, conducting trash removal, and cleaning and maintaining equipment. Additionally, this role may involve setting up rooms for events in the Senate wing of the U.S. Capitol building. These tasks are accomplished both individually and as a team depending on the general direction of a Team Leader. This is highly sensitive work requiring superior etiquette and professionalism. The role requires interaction with Senate offices, as well as several supporting departments. Work is performed overnight, typically from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am. Key Accountabilities/Essential Job Duties Sets up rooms for meetings, conferences, and banquets on a regular basis. Moves furniture, materials, and supplies using appropriate equipment. Cleans and restocks public restrooms. Cleans offices, including kitchenettes, fireplaces, and private restrooms. Removes trash from public and private areas of the Senate side of the Capitol; transports trash to collection site. Other duties as assigned. JOB SPECIFICATIONS Required Education High school diploma (or GED). Required Work Experience 1-3 years of experience setting up events, moving furniture, and/or office cleaning; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills. Required Special Skills/Knowledge Ability to operate a variety of moving and cleaning equipment; including the ability to learn to operate an electric pallet jack. As part of our hiring process, we may conduct a skills assessment to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role. Working Conditions This position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, and requires the employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. Work requires frequent physical effort walking, bending, crawling, and standing for long durations. Heavy lifting (carrying of items more than 50 pounds). Work exposes the employee to hazardous materials (cleaning chemicals) and biohazard material (blood, pathogens). Work requires employee to wear uniforms or other protective equipment. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT To be employed by a Senate employing office in a paid position in the continental United States an individual must: Be a U.S. citizen; Be lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3)(B); Be (i) admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157 or granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1158 and (ii) have filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible; or Owe allegiance to the U.S. (i.e., qualify as a non-citizen U.S. national under federal law).
