Ultrasound Technologist Full-Time
Job Summary
The Ultrasound Technologist performs a broad range of routine and advanced sonographic examinations, supports fellow imaging staff as needed, and helps maintain smooth patient flow. Duties include moving, setting up, and operating ultrasound equipment; troubleshooting basic equipment issues; assisting with quality-assurance (QA) activities; and resolving image-processing or archiving problems. The technologist stays current through continuing education, observes all safety protocols, and maintains required imaging competencies. Professional conduct and communication must consistently reflect the organizations mission, values, and culture.
Key Responsibilities
Uphold professional appearance, confidentiality, attendance, and reliability in line with departmental policies.
Foster a positive work environment by collaborating with peers, physicians, and leadership; support staff engagement and development.
Deliver excellent service to radiologists and referring providers, ensuring high physician satisfaction.
Protect patient privacy at all times and share information only as required for care.
Adapt assessments and care techniques to meet each patients physical, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs.
Comply with all applicable state, federal, and facility policies, procedures, and standards of care.
Perform sonographic exams within licensure and documented competencies to support efficient patient throughput.
Work flexible shifts and float to other campuses or departments when needed.
Ensure completed studies are correctly scanned and archived in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS); follow downtime procedures and escalate issues when necessary.
Troubleshoot and report equipment malfunctions, coordinating with Biomedical Engineering and leadership for timely resolution.
Participate in QA programs, continuing education, and technology updates.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Ultrasound Technology program or an approved equivalent
Experience:
1 year of ultrasound scanning experience preferred
Technical Skills:
Basic computer proficiency
Licensure / Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
AND one of the following within 12 months of hire:
ARRT Sonography (S)
ARRT Vascular Sonography (VS) (preferred)
ARRT Breast Sonography (BS) (preferred)
RDMS Abdomen (AB)
RDMS Breast (BR) (preferred)
RDMS Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN) (preferred)
RDCS Adult Echocardiography (AE)
ARDMS Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
State sonography licensure required where applicable (e.g., DMS license in New Mexico)
Compensation & Scheduling
Compensation
- Hourly rates: $25.76 - $35.42 based on experience
- 1 year: $26.73
- 5 years: $30.59
- 10 years/max: $35.42
- Shift Differentials:
- Nights (7p7a): $3.00
- Evenings (7p7a): $3.00
- Weekends: 10% of base pay
- Sign-on Bonus: Not available at this time
